During the first half of May, I had the honor to accept the Source Water Protection award on behalf of the EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians). I sincerely thank Juanita Wilson for her tireless dedication to this project.
Cherokee Preservation Foundation announces Spring Grants for 2024
This spring, the Cherokee Preservation Foundation awarded 12 spring grants to partners within western North Carolina and beyond. Grants totaled more than $3.1 million and were awarded to projects advancing the Foundation’s mission of improving the quality of life for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and neighboring communities.
CCS School Board holds May meeting
The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) met on Monday, May 6 in the Central Office Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 4:44pm by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Program presents Totsuwa: Winter Walk and Read
Every year, the Jones-Bowman fellows are tasked with the creation and execution of a group service project. The 2021-22 Jones-Bowman fellows are Nolan Arkansas, Juanita Paz-Chalacha, Zoie Lambert, Kevonna Tushka, Colby Taylor, and Levi West.

You should be able to recognize a platitude when you see it. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a platitude is “a remark or statement, especially one with a moral content, that has been used too often to be interesting or thoughtful”.
COMMENTARY: A rebuttal to the Attorney General’s thoughts on proposed Constitution
EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Attorney General Michael McConnell wrote in his commentary letter, “On April 6, 2023, Tribal Council passed Resolution No. 559 (2023), which was submitted by the Community Club Council.”
