From the first tip-off at Blue Ridge in December to the final buzzer at the 1A West Regional Finals in Winston-Salem this past weekend, fans of Cherokee High School basketball got a treat this season.

The Cherokee Lady Braves (25-4) ended their season in the 1A West Regional Finals on Saturday, March 7 in Winston-Salem.

Kendall Toineeta, Lady Braves senior point guard, is on a mission and she proved it Friday night. She scored 36 points to lead Cherokee to a 66-53 win over the Albemarle Lady Bulldogs in the 1A West Regional semifinals.

The Cherokee Lady Braves (24-3) won their fifth straight 1A West Sectional Championship at home on Tuesday, March 3.

The Cherokee Braves (24-3) lost a squeaker (65-64) to the Albemarle Bulldogs in the Sectional Final on Monday, March 2.

The Cherokee Braves (24-2) stayed persistent and overcame a 10-point first period deficit in a state playoff second round game at home on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The Cherokee Lady Braves (22-3) started their 1A state tournament in style with a big 78-34 win over the visiting Bessemer City Lady Yellow Jackets on Friday, Feb. 27.

Cherokee’s Dustin Johnson and Jason McMillan combined for 44 points as the Braves cruised to a huge 97-47 win over the Cherryville Ironmen in the first round of the 1A state playoffs on Friday, Feb. 27.
