Recovered remains positively identified as EBCI tribal member
After a forensic investigation of the bone fragments recovered in May from a residence off Mulberry Road in Macon County, the victim has been identified as 42-year-old Tina Walkingstick Frizsell, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Frizsell was residing in Mountain City, Ga., when her brother, Gregory Justus, contacted local law enforcement reporting her missing in late May.
Cherokee Police Commission discusses drugs, self-governance issues
The Cherokee Police Commission discussed several issues during their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 11 including drug activity on the Qualla Boundary as well as self-governance for law enforcement of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).
Planning updates for 2022 Cherokee Indian Fair
The planning of this year’s Cherokee Indian Fair, the largest annual event for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), scheduled for Oct. 4-8, was delayed at first but is now moving forward.

Lambert, Ledford win top Cherokee Indian Hospital Awards
Cynthia Lambert and Amanda Ledford took home the top two honors at the annual Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) Awards ceremony on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 6. Held in the hospital’s Rotunda, the awards honored excellence for 2018. Lambert won the Hayes Award and Ledford was named 2018 Employee of the Year.

CROSS COUNTRY: Lambert places fourth at state…named All-State
Darius Lambert, freshman member of the Cherokee High School cross country team, has been lighting up courses all year long. He finished his season with a bang by placing fourth overall at the 1A State Championship meet at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville on Saturday, Nov. 7.
FOOTBALL: Braves finish regular season strong at Hayesville
The Cherokee Braves (4-7) finished the 2015 regular season with a strong victory over the hosting Hayesville Yellow Jackets (3-8) on Friday, Nov. 6 with a final score of 45-28.
CROSS COUNTRY: Lambert takes sixth at Regional Meet
Cherokee’s Darius Lambert, Smoky Mountain Conference runner-up, took sixth place at the 1A West Regional Cross Country meet held at Asheville Christian on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a time of 17:18.62.
