Cherokee stories from a Cherokee voice; Museum is updating exhibit
The Museum of the Cherokee People is currently working on updating its main exhibit – one that has been on display since 1998. The Museum received a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for $225,000 for the research and development aspects of the update to the area that will now be called the Main Gallery as opposed to the permanent exhibit.
CCS school board concludes last meeting of 2023
The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools met on Monday, Dec. 18. The meeting included a financial report, policy revisions, and Indian School Equalization Program (ISEP) funding discussions.
One Feather staffer receives $5,000 grant from International Women’s Media Foundation
Brooklyn Brown, a reporter for the Cherokee One Feather, recently applied for and received an individual grant of $5,000 from the International Women’s Media Foundation Fund for Indigenous Journalists: Reporting on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit and Transgender People (MMIWG2T).

Fire Mountain Inferno returns for third year
May 22 marked the beginning of the Third Annual Fire Mountain Inferno, drawing in mountain bikers from all of the region to participate in the two-day event held in Cherokee.
Whittier man sentenced to prison for firearm offense
Chief U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger sentenced Michael James George, 46, of Whittier, on Thursday, May 27 to 30 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for a firearm offense, announced William T. Stetzer, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
