Tribal Council approves $3.4 million land purchase for casino property
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) has begun the process to purchase a four-acre lot in the Painttown Community for a price of $3,400,000.

Tribe announces new 200-acre “experience” at the entrance to Smoky Mountains
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) plans to develop a new “experiential destination” at Sevierville’s busy Interstate 40 (I-40) Exit 407. The 200-acre mixed-use development will serve as a gateway and “first stop” for more than 11 million tourists who travel through Sevier County to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park every year.

WRESTLING: Five Tribal members win conference titles
A total of five EBCI tribal members won titles at the Smoky Mountain Conference titles at the conference tournament at Hiwassee Dam on Saturday, Feb. 1 including: Levi Swearengin, Cherokee, 126; Russell Bigmeat, Swain, 136; Jaron Bradley, Cherokee, 152; Nathan Craig, Robbinsville, 170; and Spencer McCoy, Swain, 195.
FOOTBALL: Tribal member named All-State
Spencer McCoy, an EBCI tribal member and a junior at Swain County High School, has been named to the NCPreps.com All-State 1A team as a middle linebacker.
MS BASKETBALL: Braves win in opening round of SMC tournament
The Cherokee Middle School Braves traveled to Murphy to play the Andrews Wildcats in the opening round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1.
