Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approves resolution opposing construction at Moccasin Bend
Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) has passed a resolution opposing new construction at a Tennessee site that is historically and culturally significant to Cherokee people. Res. No. 175 (2024) was passed unanimously during the regular Dinilawigi session on Thursday, April 4.

Cruise the Smokies has big showing
Brenda Berry, of Anderson, S.C., was wiping down a car she has been attached to since childhood during an event at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 16. She was caring for her 1954 Ford Ranch Wagon at the Cruise the Smokies Rod Run hosted by the Cherokee Rodders.

FOOTBALL: Braves win third straight Battle of the Nations
For the third straight year, Cherokee (1-1) defeated Choctaw Central (0-2) and got to hoist the Battle of the Nations trophy in victory.
FOOTBALL: Blackhawks edge Braves in season opener
Cherokee and North Buncombe ended the game very even in the stat books and very close on the scoreboard, but the Blackhawks managed to edge it out on the latter.
Cherokee represented at Speed Week
Men have been testing their mettle and their metal in the form of iron horse racing since 1912 at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Speed Week is held Aug. 11-17 at the Flats and Cherokee is being represented by one of the members of the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run event team.

The Native Arts and Cultures Foundation (NACF) has appointed W. Richard West, Jr. to its board of directors. West is founding director and director emeritus of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in Washington, D.C.

Native Internships with Stipend at Indian Arts Research Center
The School for Advanced Research, Indian Arts Research Center (IARC) offers two nine-month internships to Native individuals who are recent college graduates, current graduate students, or junior museum professionals interested in furthering their professional museum experience and enhancing their intellectual capacity for contributing to the expanding field and discourse of museum studies.
