Meeting held to discuss new Constitution Committee

A public meeting was held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16 in the Cherokee Indian Hospital’s Welch Top Conference Room to discuss the future of the Constitution Committee for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). An email was sent out suggesting the meeting was called to “collect notes to be presented”.

Frell Owl Award presented to Peaches Squirrell

The coveted Frell Owl Award has been presented to a Cherokee basketball legend who has continued to give of her time and knowledge to help countless numbers of young players.  The 2021 Frell Owl Award was presented to Peaches Squirrell during a luncheon at Harrah’s Cherokee Convention Center on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 4.

COMMENTARY: Give the Ceremonial Grounds back to the community

I think we need to fast-track the development and implementation of a construction plan for our Ceremonial Grounds and our government needs to come to terms as to what the community wants it to be, and the community’s answer may not be “we want it to generate dollars”. Because soon, we won’t be able to see the fairgrounds for the grass.

Cherokee Christmas Comic Con opens Thursday

On Thursday, Dec. 17, the doors will open on Cherokee’s first ever comic book convention. The inaugural Cherokee Christmas Comic Con, or C4, as fans are calling it, will kick off at two separate sites, The Cherokee Phoenix Theatres and the Acquoni Expo Center.

WCU Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band to perform April 29

The Western Carolina University Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band will present their final concert of the 2013-14 academic year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, an event that will showcase the talents of student soloists and student conductors chosen through an audition process.
