Cherokee Nation creates new language department to focus on preserving language, generating more proficient speakers
The Cherokee Nation is establishing a new language department that will directly oversee the tribe’s Cherokee Immersion School, a team of translators and the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program. The new department will focus on language preservation and perpetuation, and generating more proficient second-language Cherokee speakers.
Tribal leaders decide on long-term care master plan for Hospital
A long-term care campus, to serve the needs of the elders of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, is now one step closer to coming to fruition.

Cherokee Runners to stage 3rd Annual Sunset 5K
Cherokee Runners Couch to 5K is in its seventh week and will culminate in the group’s 3rd annual Sunset 5K Run/Walk that will be held on Thursday, July 4. The event will include a 1-mile fun run that begins at 7:15pm and the 5K will begin at 7:45pm. The registration fee for the 5K is $15 while the fun run is $10.
