Each week, Chris McCoy, director of EBCI Communications, interviews Dr. Richard A. Bunio, Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority executive clinical director, about current COVID-19 updates and news. Lumbee Recognition Act passes House
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, a state-recognized group based in Robeson County, is one step closer to achieving a goal they’ve been seeking for over 100 years – federal recognition as an American Indian tribe.

Last month, I competed in the USA Track & Field (USATF) Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championships in Albuquerque, NM. I placed 30th overall. There were 345 runners from all over the country.

MS BASKETBALL: Cherokee sweeps Rosman
The Cherokee Middle School basketball teams traveled to Rosman on Thursday, Jan. 23 and came away with wins.
BASKETBALL: Braves, Lady Braves top 90 points in wins
The Cherokee Braves (7-9) and the Lady Braves (14-2) both topped 90pts in wins at Rosman on Friday, Jan. 17. The Braves won 95-76, and the Lady Braves won big over the Lady Tigers 92-52.
WRESTLING: Cherokee beats Jackets 42-24
The Cherokee Wrestling team added another notch to the win column on Thursday, Jan. 16 as they beat the visiting Hayesville Yellow Jackets by a team score of 42-24. The Braves continue building momentum with their second team victory of the week as the 2013-14 season winds down and heads into post season action.

Edbert Wilson Walkingstick, 60, of Cherokee, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. He lived on the 3200 acre tract and retired as transportation coordinator at Dora Reed Headstart after 35 years of service.

Freida W. Panther, 62, of Cherokee, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018.

Dorothy Frances (James) Farmer, 87, Whittier, and past resident and birth home of Miami, Fla., passed away on Friday, Nov. 2 following an extended illness and a brief stay on Hospice care while at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
