Hospital officials to present “Senior Campus” proposals next month
A project to construct a Senior Continuing Care Retirement Community, to better serve the elders of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), is moving along.

This is a criminal docket date for the Cherokee Tribal Court. All of the defendants listed have only been charged with the crimes/offenses listed and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Women serving in leadership roles in business, government and education in Western North Carolina will be among the speakers and panelists for the inaugural Women’s Leadership Conference, a two-day event to be held in March at Western Carolina University.

EDITORIAL: What must it be like to be banished?
According to the Municode for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Section 2-1, Subsection B, “The Tribal Council shall have the power to exclude other persons from Cherokee trust lands when necessary to protect the integrity and law and order on Tribal lands and territory or the welfare of its members”. Subsection A talks about the “exclusion” or banishment of enrolled members who are deemed sex offenders or drug traffickers.

BASKETBALL: Cherokee tames Wildcats
To cap off a week of basketball – three games in four days – Cherokee’s varsity basketball teams swept Andrews at Charles George Arena on Friday, Dec. 13. The Lady Braves (7-1) beat up on the Lady Wildcats 79-27 and the Braves (4-4) got to .500 on the year with a big 77-44 win.
BASKETBALL: Lady Braves ground Lady Rockets; Braves hurt by shooting percentage
The Cherokee Lady Braves (6-1) defeated the A.C. Reynolds Lady Rockets 66-41 at Charles George Arena on Thursday, Dec. 12. The Braves (3-4) fell to the Rockets 87-64 after shooting only 35 percent from the field.
WRESTLING: Cherokee at Rosman
Cherokee’s varsity and middle school wrestling teams traveled to Rosman on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
