The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) have entered into a contract to support the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) in addressing the health needs of American Indian/Alaskan Native Medicaid beneficiaries.

Cherokee High to present “Short Attention Span Theater”
A bevy of songs and monologues will fill the Chief Dugan Cultural Arts Center as Cherokee High School students will present “Short Attention Span Theatre” on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7pm.

LGBTQ group hopes to make a difference for acceptance
For many years among the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, being gay, lesbian or transgender was something that was either hidden or something that wasn’t discussed. There was a stigma attached to it, and many just don’t want to discuss it. One organization on the Boundary hopes to change that.
COMMENTARY: Janna Girty should be praised for bravery
While covering the Junior Miss Cherokee pageant during the 106th Cherokee Indian Fair, I witnessed a young lady display exemplary bravery and conquer a fear millions like her, including myself, have – public speaking due to stuttering.

Two members of the Cherokee Braves varsity wrestling team won championships in their division at the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament held at Murphy High School on Saturday, Jan. 31.

BASKETBALL: Braves drop first game of season on Friday
The Cherokee Braves (18-1) lost their first game of the season at Hayesville on Friday, Jan. 30 as the Yellow Jackets took the win 84-52.
