ROBBINSVILLE – The Cherokee Lady Braves (19-2) lost their second of the season in a hard fought game at Robbinsville on Friday, Feb. 6.  Kendall Toineeta, Lady Braves senior point guard, led Cherokee with 20 points.

“I don’t think we played very well at all,” said Lady Braves head coach Chris Mintz.  “We made too many turnovers.  We let them get on a run, and our defense wasn’t very good at all tonight.”

Coach Mintz added, “We’ve got to stay out of foul trouble.  We got into foul trouble in the first half, and that seems to be the case lately.  It makes it tough because we’re already short-handed, and when we get short-handed a little more, it makes it really tough.”

Cherokee started out well in this game as Tiffiani Riggen, Lady Braves forward, scored the first four points.  She finished the game with 10 points.

The Lady Braves took an early 11-3 lead at the 4:38 mark in the first period.  Robbinsville closed the gap though and pulled to 15-14 several minutes later.  The Lady Black Knights took the lead at 16-15 with :34 left in the first, but Brionna Jumper, Lady Braves forward, hit two free throws to give Cherokee a 17-16 lead at the end of the first period.

Robbinsville took the lead again early in the second period and led 24-21 midway through.  Both teams exchanged baskets during the second and the Lady Black Knights led 33-28 at the half.

The Lady Black Knights extended their lead in the third and led by 14 points (46-32) at the 4:02 mark.  At the end of the period, Robbinsville led 53-43.

Cherokee was not done though and scored the first seven points in the fourth.  Toineeta hit a three point shot to bring it to 53-50 with 6:12 left in the game.  Robbinsville kept the pressure and several key shots added up as the Lady Black Knights extended their lead to 10 points again with 2:44 left and went on to take the 71-61 win.

Other Lady Braves scorers included:  LeLe Lossiah 8, Reagan Barnard 4, Brionna Jumper 7 and Kyla George 12.

Robbinsville scorers included:  Erin Maennle 26, Katie Walsh 5, Kinsley Orr 18, Madison Cole 12, Haven Buckel 2, Daylee Brooms 4 and Paige Collins 4.
