Other tribes join EBCI in opposition to Congressional route for federal recognition
Several other federally recognized tribes and tribal organizations have joined with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) to oppose groups seeking federal recognition as an Indian tribe through Congressional means.

Council approves personnel powers for Chief of Police
The Chief of Police of the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) now has more authority over personnel matters due to changes made to Cherokee Code Section 96-11. Tribal Council passed Ordinance No. 144 (2022) during its regular session on Thursday, March 3 that amends language in the Code regarding officers and employees under the CIPD.

CROSS COUNTRY: Lambert takes sixth at Regional Meet
Cherokee’s Darius Lambert, Smoky Mountain Conference runner-up, took sixth place at the 1A West Regional Cross Country meet held at Asheville Christian on Saturday, Oct. 31 with a time of 17:18.62.
FOOTBALL: Black Knights score 14 in fourth to top Braves
The final score didn’t reflect it, but it was a close game until about five minutes left as the Cherokee Braves (3-7) hosted the Robbinsville Black Knights (7-2) at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Friday, Oct. 30.
