Chief’s Monthly Report for April ᎧᏬᏂ
We kicked off April by kicking off the 2024 Senior Games at the Peaches Squirrell Sports and Recreation Complex! The Vice Chief and I were excited to see the impressive turnout, with over 170 seniors participating.
“We’ve got to do more”: MMIR Walk & Vigil held in Cherokee
“His presence mattered,” said Mary “Missy” Crowe, an elder of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) from Elawodi (Yellowhill). She was speaking of her relative, Gabriel (Gabe) Thor Crow, a noted Cherokee basket maker, who has been missing since early this year.
EBCI forming new intertribal organization with other USET founders
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) was one of four federally recognized tribes that founded what would become the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) – founded originally as the Inter-Tribal Council of United Southeastern Tribes.

Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament results
The 2022 Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament was held in Cherokee on July 8-9. A total of 232 anglers registered for the event with 55 tags being turned in out of the 237 tagged fish.

They never know when there will be an overdose, a heart failure, a gunshot, a tumble down the stairs, or a car crash will sound the alarm for them to get their gear and make their way to whatever hurt may be ahead of them.

CROSS COUNTRY: CMS Lady Braves take second at Bulldog XC Open
The Cherokee High School (CHS) and Middle School (CMS) cross country teams participated in the Bulldog XC Open, hosted by Murphy High School, on Saturday, Sept. 7.
FOOTBALL: Braves defeated by Smoky Mountain in home opener
Cherokee held strong early in the game, but a second quarter burst by Smoky Mountain buried the hosts.
CROSS COUNTRY: Cherokee teams participate in Watermelon Run
The Cherokee High School (CHS) varsity cross country teams participated in the Watermelon Run, hosted by Smoky Mountain High School, at the Jackson County Recreation Park in Cullowhee on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 4.
