Two men pleaded guilty to trafficking illegal drugs in Macon County
District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch announced that two men in two separate cases in Macon County pleaded guilty recently to trafficking illegal drugs.

U.S. District Judge Max O. Cogburn, Jr. sentenced Brandon Tyler Buchanan on Monday, April 14 to 30 years in prison for second degree murder
Cherokee basketball legend passes away
A Cherokee basketball legend with a gigantic smile and an amazing heart passed away recently. Mianna “Peaches” Squirrell passed away on Monday, April 7 at the age of 44. Squirrell’s obit sums up her life. “Peaches didn’t just touch lives – she transformed them.”

EBCI models walk in Native Fashion in the City Fashion Show
Eight Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) models walked in the 10-year anniversary fashion show of Native Fashion in the City (NFITC) in Denver, Colo. on March 14 and 15. NFITC a modeling and fashion organization for Native American First Nations designers and models.

COMMENTARY: Tsalagi Minute signs would provide education around town
Several years ago, the One Feather started a weekly informational graphic we call the Tsalagi Minute. I think it would be neat to see Tsalagi Minute signs made, featuring some of these graphics, that could be placed around the Qualla Boundary – most specifically in and around downtown Cherokee and the cultural district.
COMMENTARY: We need to be more like Dave.
Dave Russell is my counterpart at The Sylva Herald and Ruralite. We have a dandy working relationship with the Herald and it sounds like he and I share some commonalities when it comes to managing and reporting.

Cherokee youth giving triathlon a go
The sport of triathlon is a tough discipline that involves swimming, cycling, and running combined into one race. Dvdaya, Ogana, and Uweluga Swimmer and Joscelyn and Cambry Stamper, all members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, participated in the Sugar Creek Youth Triathlon in Greer, S.C. in early September.

Members of the Cherokee High School and Middle School cross country teams traveled to Murphy High School for the Bulldog XC Meet on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 25.
JV FOOTBALL: Braves double offensive yards in 48-6 defeat of Andrews
The Cherokee JV Braves gained a total of 321 yards of offense while holding the Andrews JV Wildcats to only 161 during a game at Ray Kinsland Stadium on the beautiful fall evening of Thursday, Sept. 23.
