Cherokee schools, state schools closed until May 15
North Carolina public school students will be out of school for at least two more months due to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Coronavirus prompts WCU to postpone May commencement ceremonies
In response to the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, Western Carolina University is postponing all spring commencement ceremonies originally scheduled for May 8 and 9, and will announce by April 3 plans for rescheduling the events.
Taylor sentenced to 46 months for assault of tribal elder

What’s happening at the Fair on Saturday?
The Cherokee Indian Fair will take place Oct. 7-11 at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds. The Destination Marketing Department has prepared the lineup for this year’s event. The theme for this year’s Fair is Cherokee People: Our Legends and Tales.
Three to compete for Miss Cherokee crown
Three young ladies will vie for the Miss Cherokee crown during the annual pageant scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 at 6pm at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center.
