Cherokee cases increase as “community spread” confirmed
Cherokee has seen nine (9) new positive cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last two days (four reported on Sunday, May 31 and five on Monday, June 1) as reported by the EBCI Joint Information Center.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Rangers responded to a report of a motorcycle collision along Newfound Gap Road near Park Headquarters at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 30.
Swain County positive cases attended community gatherings
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) and Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) identified two Swain County residents on Thursday, May 28 who tested positive for COVID-19 at a Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority drive-thru testing site.

Tribe to host 2nd Annual Cherokee Lights and Legends Christmas
Again this year, the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds will be decorated in tinsel and lights. Enjoy a winter wonderland with light tunnels guiding guests to each of the Cherokee legend sculptures that were custom-made for Cherokee and for this event.

It is rare when a soccer player gets a hat trick (three goals) in a match. It is almost unheard of for a player to do that twice in the same week. But, that’s exactly what Cherokee senior Taran Swimmer did this past week.
TRACK & FIELD: Sutton wins shot put championship
Cherokee senior Stevi Sutton is on a quest for a ring. Last year, she was the runner-up in the state shot put event with a throw of 34’ 11”. She shattered that mark and her personal best with a throw of 36’ 6” to win the shot put event at the Smoky Mountain Conference track and field championship held at Cherokee High School on Wednesday, April 23.

Ethan David Ross LaFontaine died unexpectedly in Mandaree, ND on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at the age of 21.
Mickey Edward Rattler – obituary
Mickey Edward Rattler, 61, of the Birdtown Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Elsie Wolfe Rattler of Cherokee and the late Leroy Rattler of Snowbird.
