EBCI photographers featured in The 400 Years Project
The 400 Years Project is a new photography collective designed to showcase Native American life through the lens of Native photographers. Created in 2020 ahead of the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s arrival from England, this project seeks to create a groundbreaking pictorial collection of photography from the mid-1800’s to the present.

A woman last fall embarked on a crime spree in the Sylva area, breaking into people’s homes, stealing various items that included collectible, rare and valuable musical instruments and using illegal drugs.

Beloved Woman to receive honorary UNC Asheville degree
UNC Asheville will celebrate Spring 2017 Commencement on Saturday, May 13, with alumna Ko Barrett, deputy assistant administrator for research for NOAA, serving as commencement speaker for the morning ceremony. Barrett will receive an honorary degree, along with honorary degree recipients EBCI Beloved Woman Ellen Bird, artist Stoney Lamar, and pediatrician Olson Huff.

He is a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, a Cherokee historian and storyteller, an Indian ballgame caller, a Cherokee first language speaker, and soon he will be a doctor.

JV FOOTBALL: BRAVES BEAT SWAIN
The JV Braves (3-0) have a flair for the dramatic. For the second week in a row, they sealed the game with less than two minutes left.
FOOTBALL: Buchanan amasses over 300 yards in Braves loss
Brandon Buchanan, Braves quarterback, amassed a total of 338 yards of total offense during a rainy Thursday night game against Rabun Gap (Ga.) at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Sept. 10. Overall, the Braves had 360 yards of total offense, but it was not quite enough as they fell to the Eagles 41-26.
JV FOOTBALL: Braves edge Robbinsville in final minute
There were two lead changes, two touchdowns, an interception and a fumble all in the final two minutes of the game as the Cherokee JV Braves (2-0) hosted Robbinsville at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Isaiah Evans, JV Braves running back, caught a Tye Mintz pass and took it 39 yards to the house for the game-winning score with 36 seconds left in the game to give the Braves a 32-28 win.
