Interior Department takes action to foster equity and inclusion across its Bureaus
As part of the Biden-Harris administration’s work to prioritize equity and inclusion across the federal government, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland today established the first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Council to incorporate these practices into the Department’s work across its many bureaus.
EBCI to receive $43.3 million more in ARP than previously expected
Cory Blankenship, EBCI Secretary of Treasury, had some good news for the leaders and members of Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) during a report to Tribal Council on Thursday, Feb. 17. The discussion centered around ARP (American Rescue Plan) funding for the Tribe.
Tribal ABC Store to open in Cherokee
Cherokee will soon have its own ABC store. The Tribal Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (TABCC) for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is currently working on the Tribal ABC Store which it hopes to open in early March.

Council approves help for Snowbird Fire Department
A volunteer fire department serving a tribal community could get some help in obtaining vital and updated equipment to fight fires. Tribal Council approved a resolution Aug. 2 to help the Snowbird Volunteer Fire Department obtain a new fire truck to use in carrying out its duties.
Jones-Bowman Fellows share the history of the Cherokee with international audience
The Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Program Fellows traveled to Black Mountain recently to conduct a presentation on the history of the Cherokee to a group of students attending a retreat at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly.

CROSS COUNTRY: Middle School girls win at home
The Cherokee Middle School girls cross country team continued its winning ways as they won the team championship at the Cherokee Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
JV FOOTBALL: Braves run past Andrews in season finale
The Cherokee JV Braves (1-5) finished their 2015 season on a high note as they hosted the Andrews JV Wildcats at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 8. After a slow start by both teams, Cherokee’s offense began to click and they ran away with the game 42-14.
