Council approves personnel powers for Chief of Police
The Chief of Police of the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) now has more authority over personnel matters due to changes made to Cherokee Code Section 96-11. Tribal Council passed Ordinance No. 144 (2022) during its regular session on Thursday, March 3 that amends language in the Code regarding officers and employees under the CIPD.
Kituwah, LLC seeks funding for Puy du Fou partnership
The Kituwah, LLC will be requesting approximately $31 million from Tribal Council to launch a new partnership project with award-winning French entertainment company Puy du Fou.
Swimmer sentenced to 365 months in prison for second degree murder
A Cherokee, N.C. man convicted of second degree murder by a federal jury was sentenced to 365 months in prison on Thursday, March 3, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Shane McKinley Swimmer, 22. was also ordered to serve eight years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.
