The Cherokee One Feather invited all candidates in the 2023 EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Election to weigh in on various topics. Each candidate was given a 250-word limit per topic. Open letter to tribal leaders regarding EBCI Census
The EBCI Enrollment keeps pretty tight records of who are enrolled and where they reside, probably much more accurate than any census would bear out. Why not either referendum a change to the Charter that would define the census as polling the enrollment data to get correct residency for each tribal member?

BASKETBALL: Braves 66 Rosman 61
The Cherokee Braves defeated the Rosman Tigers 66-61 at the Charles George Memorial Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
BASKETBALL: Lady Braves win Battle at the Border
The Cherokee Lady Braves won the girls championship at the 17th Annual Battle at the Border basketball tournament with a 77-46 win over Landrum on Friday, Dec. 30.
BASKETBALL: Lady Braves 2nd, Braves 4th in Holidays tournament
The Cherokee Lady Braves (6-1) took second place in the Holidays on the Hardwood Tournament held Dec. 21-23 at the Charles George Memorial Arena.

OBITUARY: Darrell William Teesateskie
Darrell William Teesateskie, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at his residence. He is survived by his children, Dawn Rae Vallejo and Woodrow Teesateskie; three grandchildren, Dreyton Long, Davisia Teesateskie, and Cyrus Crowe; and his riding buddy, Oscar.

Joseph “Joe” Thompson, 94, of the Big Cove Community, went to his Heavenly Home to join his Father on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Jackson and Alice Wolfe Thompson.

After a courageous battle with various illnesses, Jean J. Arch entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2022, from her home surrounded by family. Jean’s faith was the essence of her service to her community. She was given awards that described her outstanding service and tireless dedication to the Cherokee people and community.
