With the passage of two pieces of legislation during its regular session on Thursday, Jan. 12, Tribal Council has authorized EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) officials to work with North Carolina lawmakers regarding cannabis issues and the state income taxation of EBCI tribal members.

Cecil Doc Queen, age 85, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022. Cecil was born in Whittier and later moved to Detroit, Mich. in the early 1950s where he married his sweetheart Julia and began his family.
