Cherokee women recognized by State of Tennessee for Kuwohi effort
Two Cherokee women spearheading an effort to restore the name of Kuwohi to an area in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have been recognized by the State of Tennessee.

EBCI Attorney General seeks removal of the constitution referendum question
On Thursday, April 20, the Constitution Committee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) held its regular weekly meeting at the EOC building. In attendance were Lloyd Arneach Jr., chairperson of the committee, and Beloved Woman Carmaleta Monteith, who serves on the committee and is a representative of the Community Club Council (Yellowhill). Others in attendance were Ernest Tiger (vice chairperson of the Community Club Council), Virginia Johnson (Yellowhill Community Club representative), Judge Barbara “Sunshine” Parker, EBCI Attorney General Michael McConnell, Hannah Smith, Bonnie Claxton, Tammy Jackson, and Big Cove Tribal Council Rep. Teresa McCoy.

Remember the Remained riders to tour area Cherokee sites
The 2020 Remember the Removal riders were disappointed when the event, which retraces the northern route of the Trail of Tears from Georgia to Oklahoma, was cancelled last month due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).

A new exhibit at the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, called “Many Faces”, features the ancient art of Cherokee mask making in a modern realm and will inform visitors of this art form still practiced by some artists of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

SPEAKING OF FAITH: Change by growing in faith
“If a person is having problems loving their enemies, something’s not right. When one gets cut off in traffic, one doesn’t have to like that, but neither should they act a fool. Look at one’s neighbor and say, he doesn’t always get it right, but he’s getting better and better.
COMMENTARY: Buying love
I spent 27 years of my life with dogs. I mean, I had dogs before, and a couple of cats, but the dogs and cats before adulthood, and my pets were really my mother’s responsibility along with me. I wasn’t primary caretaker then. I was as dependent for my life as the pets were. Mom let me say that they were my pets, but the reality was that they were her pets.
