“An experience for the ages”: 407 Project holds latest groundbreaking
The next piece is in place for the 407: Gateway to Adventure project in Sevier County, Tennessee. Smoky Gap is the name of the newest attraction to the property owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. It is set to be completed by 2025, and an official groundbreaking was held on site on the morning of Tuesday, April 11.
Kituwah, LLC breaking ground on ‘Smoky Gap’ Entertainment District at The 407: Gateway to Adventure
Kituwah, LLC will begin development of “Smoky Gap” on Tuesday, April 11, a unique entertainment district located within The 407: Gateway to Adventure in Sevierville. Smoky Gap will be the first of several phases of development and is expected to open in 2025.

EBCI pageants cancelled; royalty to serve another year
Due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) will not have royalty pageants this fall.
Cherokee Preservation Foundation announces Spring Grants for 2020
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation awarded 16 spring grants to partners within Western North Carolina and beyond. Grants totaled more than $2 million and were awarded to projects advancing the Foundation’s mission of improving the quality of life for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and neighboring communities.

Pooh King, Lady Braves senior point guard, has another award to add to her shelf. She has been named to the 2016-17 North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-District First Team.

George Steffen Beck, of Cherokee, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at Tsali Care Center after an extended illness. He was the son of Niels K. and Anna Louise Beck who were Danish immigrants, that married in Racine, Wisc.
