Referendum on adult-use cannabis will be on September ballot
Voters of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) will get to vote on whether or not to allow adult-use (sometimes referred to as recreational) cannabis on tribal lands.
Council approves ordinance change allowing community Bingo
During its regular session on Thursday, July 13, Tribal Council passed an ordinance which changes the law making community Bingo legal on lands of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).
Council removes three referendum questions from September ballot.
Voters of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) will have three fewer referendum items to vote on during the upcoming September General Election.

Big Y takes top honor at EBCI Community Development Awards
The 2019-2020 EBCI Community Development Awards were given out at the recent Cherokee Community Club Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 14. The Gadugi Community of Distinction was awarded to the Big Y Community Club.

COMMENTARY: What should we do with the elk?
During EBCI Community Services program reports last week, Natural Resource Enforcement (NRE) reported that out of 908 total calls for the previous reporting period (typically a month), 123 calls were requesting help with elk. That is roughly 13.5 percent of all call activity for that period being elk related.
