Second busiest year ever recorded at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2022
Great Smoky Mountains National Park experienced its second busiest year ever in 2022 with 12,937,633 visits. Last year’s visitation was more than 1.5 million above the park’s ten-year average, and more than the visitation of Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks combined.
National Park passes will now be required, how to get yours.
Starting on Wednesday, March 1, visitors to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (GSMNP) will be required to display a parking pass when on Park property.

Jennifer Roberts, an EBCI tribal member, was awarded the 2017 Mountain Amateur Athletics Club (MAAC) Special Olympics Award at the organization’s annual awards banquet held Sunday, May 7 at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville.
New turf being installed at Cherokee, lawsuit filed
Ray Kinsland Stadium at Cherokee Central Schools is getting a new look. The turf on the field is currently being replaced due to degradation, and a lawsuit has been filed by the school system against the original installers.
TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee boys place second at conference championship
Cherokee High School hosted the Smoky Mountain Conference track and field championship during a bright, sunny spring day on Wednesday, May 3, and the Braves team came away with a second place finish.
