Like many healthcare systems and facilities across the country, the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority has a tremendous need for trained and skilled professionals – particularly Certified Medical Assistants.
EBCI Attorney General seeks removal of the constitution referendum question
On Thursday, April 20, the Constitution Committee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) held its regular weekly meeting at the EOC building. In attendance were Lloyd Arneach Jr., chairperson of the committee, and Beloved Woman Carmaleta Monteith, who serves on the committee and is a representative of the Community Club Council (Yellowhill). Others in attendance were Ernest Tiger (vice chairperson of the Community Club Council), Virginia Johnson (Yellowhill Community Club representative), Judge Barbara “Sunshine” Parker, EBCI Attorney General Michael McConnell, Hannah Smith, Bonnie Claxton, Tammy Jackson, and Big Cove Tribal Council Rep. Teresa McCoy.
Cherokee celebrates Earth Week
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) celebrated Earth Week (April 17-22) with several events on and around the Qualla Boundary encouraging knowledge of environmental and wildlife issues.

Pipestem named National Merit semifinalist
Parrish Pipestem, a student at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla., has been named a semifinalist in the 66th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Qualla Country Trout Tournament winners
The 2020 Qualla Country Trout Tournament was held in Cherokee on Sept. 4-5. A total of 6,000 lbs. of fish were stocked in the days just prior to the tournament on Sept. 1-3 and 217 tagged fish were stocked on Sept. 4 after fishing hours.

COMMENTARY: Let’s freshen up the U.S. flags on the Boundary
Each morning as I come into work from the Painttown area, I come through downtown Cherokee. Lately, I’ve noticed more and more tattered U.S. flags in downtown and some in other parts of the Qualla Boundary.
COMMENTARY: Why has courtesy become so uncommon?
Patience. It is a virtue indeed. And, like me, I am sure you all could use a good dose of it. Pardon me for being rude, but we have become a society of, if not community of, discourteous people.
COMMENTARY: Financial illiteracy on the Boundary
I was amongst the last groups of EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians )kids that received their ‘big money’ in one lump sum. I had just graduated high school and was told the best thing to do would be to cash the whole lot and take it to my preferred bank. Talk about a recipe for disaster.

Cherokee High School played host to the Smoky Mountain Conference middle school and high school cross country championship on the beautiful, fall afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 18.
FOOTBALL: Braves top Andrews on road to stay unbeaten
Scoring was a team effort for Cherokee as they improved to 8-0 on the season with a road win at Andrews (1-8) on Friday, Oct. 13.

Lucy B. Teesateskie, commonly known as “Lucy T”, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Tsali Care Center after a brief illness.
