EBCI forming new intertribal organization with other USET founders
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) was one of four federally recognized tribes that founded what would become the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) – founded originally as the Inter-Tribal Council of United Southeastern Tribes.

WNC Honors given to EBCI communities
The culmination of this year’s program occurred via Zoom on Thursday, Dec. 2 with over 100 community leaders and volunteers from 13 western North Carolina Counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). Eight EBCI community centers were honored with cash awards and recognition, and seven won Best in Class awards.
‘A New Beginning’: Cherokee, USFW Service work together to preserve the land, relationship

Tsali Day celebration planned at Kituwah
Each year, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians recognizes the Friday after Thanksgiving as a tribal holiday known as Tsali Day. This year, a group of tribal members are organizing an event honoring Tsali Day and acknowledging the importance that the Tribe recently achieved federal trust land status for Kituwah – the Mother Town of the Cherokee.

I had just finished preparing some documents concerning records relating to the term Grand Council in the proposed Constitution when I saw the new controversy over it. In 2019 I made comments concerning the misinterpretation of the Grand Council to the Constitution Committee.

The Cherokee High School cross country teams traveled to Robbinsville on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 10 to compete in the Huckleberry Hustle.

With the annual Cherokee Indian Fair in full swing at home, the Cherokee Braves (4-3) traveled to the Rosman Tigers (2-6) on the evening of Friday, Oct. 5.

Mary Ann Lambert, 58, of Cherokee, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at her residence. She was born on Monday, Sept. 14, 1964, in Lakeland, Fla., the daughter Bessie Murphy Hampton and the late Frank Hampton.

What’s happening at the Fair on Tuesday?
The Cherokee Indian Fair will take place Oct. 7-11 at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds. The Destination Marketing Department has prepared the lineup for this year’s event. The theme for this year’s Fair is Cherokee People: Our Legends and Tales. Each week, leading up to the Fair, the Cherokee One Feather will print a day schedule showing all the activities at the Fair.

Tribal members place at Cherokee Homecoming art show
Three EBCI tribal members won at the 16th Annual Cherokee Homecoming art show held at the Cherokee Heritage Center. The show runs through Oct. 2.
Tribal member nominated for seven NAMMY Awards
Matt Bryant, an EBCI tribal member known as “UNO” in the music industry was recently nominated for seven Nammy Awards: Debut Artist of the Year, Best Producer, Best Male Artist, Best Rap/Hip Hop Recording (“A Strange Revolt”), Song Single of the Year (“Cant’ Be Human”), Record of the Year (“A Strange Revolt”), and Songwriter/Composer of the Year.
“Cherokee in a Changing World” at August Mountain Heritage Center show
