TERO holds Tribal Contract Training

The Tribal Employment Rights Office (TERO) held a training on Wednesday, July 20 to help program personnel better understand the Independent Contract Agreement (ICA), which is the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) standardized contractual agreement for establishing formal working relationships for products and services. Hosted by Terri Henry, executive director of TERO, the training was conducted by Michael McConnell, EBCI’s attorney general.

COMMENTARY: Event planning in the COVID-19 universe

I would like to comment on our recent survey question about conducting public events during the resurgence of the coronavirus. There are mixed emotions in our community about the cancellation of a full-blown Cherokee Indian Fair. It is the second year in a row, after decades of fall festivals, that we have had to close one of our most anticipated events.

Selma Seay Hope (Nani), 86, of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of the late Clingman Taylor and Winona Swayney Seay.

Park to celebrate National Public Lands Day

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is inviting the public to join park staff in Cades Cove on Saturday, Sept. 27 for the 21st annual celebration of National Public Lands Day. Volunteers are needed for this year’s event to collect seeds from native plant increase fields in Cades Cove.

WCU, OICA announce Poster Contest Winners

For the upcoming Native American Expo, scheduled for Nov. 7-9 at Western Carolina University, WCU’s Sequoyah Distinguished Professor, Cherokee Studies Program and the Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts at Southwestern Community College sponsored a Poster Contest for grades K-12, WCU students and SCC students.
