The Cherokee One Feather invited each candidate for tribal office in the 2025 EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) election to submit a bio as well as answer the following questions: 1. Why are you the best candidate for the seat that you are running for? 2. What will be your top priority if you win the seat?
Dinilawigi approves Principal Chief’s Day to be celebrated in conjunction with President’s Day
For the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), the third Monday in February will be celebrated from now on as Principal Chief’s Day in conjunction with President’s Day. Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approved Res. No. 486 unanimously during its regular session on Thursday, July 10, which made the designation.

The Business Committee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) has many varied functions as outlined throughout the Cherokee Code. Its duties and existence are covered in Cherokee Code Sec. 117-33.

The Center for Native Health receives $30,000 Stewarding Native Lands Grant
The Center for Native Health recently received a $30,000.00 grant from the First Nations Development Institute of Longmont, Colorado. This award will support the efforts of The Center for Native Health’s ᎢᏯ ih ya: EBCI Youth River Cane Project.
EBCI Cooperative Extension gives Annual Garden Contest awards
The 2023 EBCI Cooperative Extension Office’s Annual Garden Contest awards were given on the evening of Monday, Sept. 18 at the Yellowhill Activity Center. The contest judging occurred in the second week of July.
Pageants returning to Cherokee Indian Fair
One of the most significant changes this year is the highly anticipated return of the beloved pageants, including the Teen Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, and the crowning jewel, the Miss Cherokee Pageant.

SPEAKING OF FAITH: Rest in the Righteousness of Jesus
I came by today to say the Righteousness is Jesus. He’s our Righteousness and as He said, it is just for the sake of that Name. Known as the Name about every name, verse 4 brings us to another whole place, because it seems the psalmist David wrote this psalm to declare a couple of things here today.

Ecotourism. Sounds like a truly scientific word with deep meaning. The premise of this philosophy isn’t rocket science. It is a merging of two words: ecology and tourism.

We all love our stories. From gossip around the kitchen table to multi-million-dollar production, storytelling is a global cultural phenomenon. It is the way we have passed on history, genealogy, medicine, explained science, and even prayed.

CROSS COUNTRY: Cherokee Middle School teams run in County Line Challenge
The Cherokee Middle School (CMS) cross country teams participated in the County Line Challenge at the Tsali Recreation Center in Almond on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 2.
FOOTBALL: Braves show immense heart in loss to Swain
Cherokee fought hard in a 41-0 loss at Swain High School on the night of Friday, Sept. 27.

Betsy Lou Taylor, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Tsali Care Center. She is the daughter of the late David and Martha (Junaluska) Taylor.

Matilda Reed Calhoun, 73, of Cherokee. passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, May 7, 2024. A native of Cherokee, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lucinda Bird Reed.
