Largest Buc-ee’s store opens at Tribe’s development

The world’s largest Buc-ee’s convenience store opened in Sevier County, Tenn. on the morning of Monday, June 26.  The 74,000 square foot store contains 120 fuel stations and is located at The 407 – Gateway to Adventure property operated by the Kituwah, LLC, an enterprise of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

Frank Blythe and Francene Blythe-Lewis — father and daughter executive directors complete a circle during Vision Maker Media’s 45th Anniversary

The year was 1972. A group of 45 public television stations, primarily from the western United States, were brought together with the help of a Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant for a three-day meeting at historic Wingspread, the Lloyd Wright House at the Johnson Foundation in Racine, Wisconsin. Frank Blythe (Eastern Cherokee/Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota) was one of the participants. He was one of just six Native attendees who were working in public television at the time.

A Demand of Blood tells the Story of the Cherokee War of 1776

It would be hard to find a person born and raised in the United States who does not associate the year 1776 with the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence. In Nadia Dean’s well crafted text A Demand of Blood: The Cherokee War of 1776, however, the story is about how the Revolutionary War and the events surrounding it affected four main groups of people: the Cherokees, focusing on Dragging Canoe and his warriors in particular; the British; the rebelling colonists; and those still loyal to the British Crown.
