The Cherokee Braves lost to the Swain Co. Maroon Devils 87-68 in a game at the Charles George Memorial Arena on Friday, Feb. 3.

Meona Feather is doing what she loves to do, and it’s been awhile since she’s been able to do it. The EBCI tribal member is a senior member of the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School (Ga.) varsity girls basketball team, and she is just back on the hardwood following a serious knee injury.

Records were set and a new paradigm for track and field was established this year at Cherokee High School. For the first time, the school fielded an indoor track team.

The Robbinsville Black Knights edged the Cherokee Braves 53-50 in a game at Robbinsville on Friday, Jan. 27.

The Cherokee Lady Braves defeated the Robbinsville Lady Black Knights 59-38 in a game at Robbinsville on Friday, Jan. 27.

Anthony Toineeta took the championship in the 160lb division and was named a Co-Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament at Rosman on Saturday, Jan. 28.

This past Thursday night, I huddled into the Swain County High School gymnasium with about 27,000 other people (or, at least it felt like it) as the Cherokee Braves and Lady Braves took on their arch nemesis – the Maroon Devils.
