BASKETBALL: Cherokee girls take second place in NAYO tournament
In what one organizer dubbed one of the most successful NAYO tournaments yet, a team representing the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians took second place in the weekend-long event held in Cherokee.

The Cherokee Braves 2017 varsity football team has been nominated for a WNC Sports Award which will be presented at the 57th Annual banquet to be held Sunday, May 6 at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville.
RUNNING: McCoy tackles BADWATER 50, earns buckle
Kallup McCoy, an EBCI tribal member, went to the beach recently and came back with a belt buckle. But, to earn that buckle he had to complete a 51.4 mile run most of which was on a wet beach.

Yesterday, I covered one of the most enjoyable games all year as the first annual CHS Lady Braves Alumni basketball game was held at the Charles George Memorial Arena.

The stands were not full, but the building was full of enthusiasm, nostalgia, and fun as the first annual Cherokee Lady Braves Alumni basketball game was held on the afternoon of Saturday, March 24 in the Charles George Memorial Arena.
RUNNING: Tribal members conquer Emerald Isle, continue to spread positive message
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians was well-represented at a recent running event on the coast. The Emerald Isle race was held on Saturday, March 10 and included a marathon, half-marathon, and 5K races.
