FOOTBALL: Paul signs with Guilford College
Will Paul, an EBCI tribal member and senior at Swain County High School, signed a letter of intent on the afternoon of Thursday, May 17 to play football this fall at Guilford College in Greensboro.
TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee athletes place at regional meet, qualify for state
Cherokee hosted the 1A West Regional track and field meet on Saturday, May 12, and several Braves and Lady Braves qualified for the state meet as a result of their performance.
GOLF: Straughan competes at 1A state championship
Cherokee’s Holden Straughan competed in the 1A Men’s Golf State Championship, tournament hosted by the Foxfire Golf Club and Resort in West End, on Monday, May 7 and Tuesday, May 8. He tied for 57th place with a total score of 192 (92 in the first round, 100 in the second).
Braves football team, Mintz receive WNC Sports Awards
The entire Cherokee Braves 2017 state championship football team and Tye Mintz, Braves senior, were honored at the 57th WNC Sports Awards held at the Grove Park Inn on the evening of Sunday, May 6.
FOOTBALL: Braves receive state championship rings
One-hundred and forty-six days after the Cherokee Braves endured the rain, sleet, and snow in Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh to best the North Duplin Rebels in the 1A State Championship game, the players received their prize.

The Cherokee boys and girls track and field teams came away with titles in several events as the school hosted the Smoky Mountain Conference track and field championship on the sunny afternoon of Wednesday, May 2.
