The 2024 Kananesgi Art Show was held on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Event Center.

CROSS COUNTRY: Braves win Smoky Mountain Conference title
On a beautiful fall day, the Cherokee Braves varsity cross country team won some hardware. With a score of 37, they edged the Swain Co. Maroon Devils (44) to win the high school boys Smoky Mountain Conference (SMC) title at the conference meet held at Kituwah on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 20.
FOOTBALL: Braves edge Andrews in road game
The Cherokee Braves (4-3) picked up a big win over Andrews (5-2) on the road on the evening of Friday, Oct. 15. Don Bradley, Braves senior quarterback, ran for two touchdowns to give the Braves a 12-9 win.
FOOTBALL: Braves top Black Knights; now tied for second in conference
The Cherokee Braves (3-3) moved into a four-way tie for second place in the Smoky Mountain Conference with a win over the Robbinsville Black Knights (3-3) on Friday, Oct. 8.

OBITUARY: John Boaze
John Boaze, of Whittier, N.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, after a period of illness.
OBITUARY: Mistee Lynn Cutshaw
Mistee Lynn Cutshaw, 53, of Bryson City, N.C., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 14, 2025. A native of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Michael Sooter and Wanda Jenkins.
OBITUARY: Charles Edwin Lossiah “Chuck”
Charles Edwin Lossiah “Chuck”, 45, of the Yellowhill Community, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Little Joe and Jessie Lossiah Watty both of Cherokee.

WCU School of Music faculty to present Feb. 19 recital
Three members of the faculty of Western Carolina University’s School of Music will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the recital hall of WCU’s Coulter Building.
‘Rocky Horror Show’ to hit WCU stage Feb. 19-21
The campy cult classic “The Rocky Horror Show,” a musical comedy that pays homage to the science fiction and B-grade horror movies of the mid-20th century, will warp its way through time to hit the stage in February at Western Carolina University as part of the School of Stage and Screen’s 2014-15 theatrical season.
