Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approves pediatric dialysis treatment feasibility examination
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is going to look at the feasibility of offering pediatric dialysis services on the Qualla Boundary. Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) passed Res. No. 461 (2025), which was introduced by EBCI Ugvwiyuhi (Principal Chief) Michell Hicks, during its regular session on Thursday, May 1.
Federal Legislative updates of interest to EBCI citizens
Starting with this month, the One Feather will provide legislative updates on various pieces of federal legislation of interest to members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
DOI: Recognition plan for Lumbee has been developed but not yet released
The Department of the Interior press office responded on Monday, April 28 to a question from the One Feather regarding the memorandum stating, “The Department of the Interior has developed a plan in accordance with President Trump’s memorandum and will provide an update when appropriate.”

Museum and Qualla Boundary MMIW partner for Archiving Event
Qualla Boundary MMIW, in partnership with Museum of the Cherokee People, announces a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Archiving Event taking place May 2 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5 .p.m in the Multipurpose Room of the Museum.
EBCI models walk in Native Fashion in the City Fashion Show
Eight Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) models walked in the 10-year anniversary fashion show of Native Fashion in the City (NFITC) in Denver, Colo. on March 14 and 15. NFITC a modeling and fashion organization for Native American First Nations designers and models.

FOOTBALL: Braves drop season-opener at Smoky Mtn.
On an absolutely beautiful night for football, complete with an amazing sunset, Cherokee got its 2021 campaign started with a visit to Smoky Mountain. The Mustangs (1-0), behind a three touchdown night for Isaiah McNeely, took the win 41-13 over the Braves (0-1).
CROSS COUNTRY: Cherokee opens season at Swain-hosted meet at Kituwah
The Cherokee High School and Middle School cross country season got underway on the overcast morning of Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Kituwah site. A total of nine high school teams and seven middle school teams competed in the event hosted by Swain County High School athletics.
