Husband charged with wife’s 2013 murder appears in federal court
Ernest D. Pheasant, Sr., 46, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), is charged with one count of first-degree murder in Indian Country. Pheasant made his initial court appearance on Monday, April 8, 2024, before U.S. Magistrate Judge W. Carleton Metcalf.

Sexual Assault Awareness Walk held in Cherokee
On the morning of April 3 beginning at the Water Beetle Stage of the Cherokee Welcome Center, the Office of the Principal Chief and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Domestic Violence-Sexual Assault Program (DVSA) held a joint Sexual Assault Awareness event and walk in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The event was called Agwohiyu, meaning “I Believe.”

During a ceremony at the Charles George Memorial Arena on the afternoon of Monday, May 23, he signed a letter of intent to play for the Concordia University Texas (Austin, Texas) Tornados next year.
