Coming full circle: Sign designating Kuwohi installed in Park
The name of the third-highest summit east of the Mississippi River was restored to its original name last fall, and now it is completely official – it has a sign. A sign designating the area in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park known as Kuwohi (mulberry place) was officially unveiled in a ceremony on the morning of Tuesday, April 1.

As the wind gently blew across the Cherokee Veterans Park, in Cherokee, N.C., on the overcast morning of Saturday, March 29, Warren Dupree’s voice rang out, “There are no noble wars. There are only noble warriors.”
Schatz, Curtis introduce Tribal Energy Fairness Act to lower costs, strengthen tribal energy sovereignty
U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and John Curtis (R-Utah) introduced the Tribal Energy Fairness Act on Thursday, March 27, bipartisan legislation aimed at expanding Tribal access to federal energy programs by removing unnecessary barriers and making technical fixes.

Reis Howell, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, is aiming high for his future. The Tumwater High School (Wash.) senior has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

I think it would be neat to see Tsalagi Minute signs made, featuring some of these graphics, that could be placed around the Qualla Boundary – most specifically in and around downtown Cherokee and the cultural district.

The Atlanta Braves and 7G Foundation will host the first ever Native American All-Star Baseball Showcase at Truist Park on July 16-17. The top 50 high school baseball players of Native American descent from around the country will participate in a pro-style workout on Saturday, July 16 and a showcase game on Sunday, July 17.
