Three to compete for Miss Cherokee crown
Three young ladies will vie for the Miss Cherokee crown during the annual pageant scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 at 6pm at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center. Amorie Gunter, Angel Squirrel and Taylor Wilnoty will be judged in various categories including traditional dress, traditional talent, public speaking and more.

Big Y wins big prize at Extension Awards
The Big Y Community had a lot to celebrate on Tuesday, Sept. 16 as it received first place in the Community Development Awards category at the EBCI Cooperative Extension Community Awards dinner held at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds. EDITORIAL: Bike Safety
According to the latest complete data from NCDOT, 147 people were killed and 3,351 were injured in traffic accidents involving motorcycles in 2013 (North Carolina 2013 Traffic Crash Facts); and another 829 accidents occurred involving mopeds or scooters resulting in 34 deaths and 725 injuries. 19 deaths are reported from bicycle accidents.
