Wolftown Gym to be re-named in memory of “Kool-Aide” Queen
The Wolftown Gym is being re-named in memory of a long-time employee of Cherokee Recreation and a man known as a gentle giant on the Qualla Boundary.
Transportation Center to be re-named in honor of Littlejohn
The Cherokee Transportation Center, which houses EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Public Transit and the Cherokee Dept. of Transportation, is being re-named in honor of a Cherokee woman who helped to build the Transit program into what it is today.
Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos win Travelers’ Choice awards

CHS students enjoy Indian dinners
In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, the Cherokee High School Cultural Program served Indian dinners on Thursday, Nov. 19. The program served to over 400 students, faculty and a few community members who just heard about it through the grapevine.
Tribe to host 2nd Annual Cherokee Lights and Legends Christmas
Again this year, the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds will be decorated in tinsel and lights. Enjoy a winter wonderland with light tunnels guiding guests to each of the Cherokee legend sculptures that were custom-made for Cherokee and for this event.
Big Cove, Big Y named Communities of Promise

119 participate in Turkey Strut 5K
A total of 119 walkers and runners came out to support the Turkey Strut 5K on Saturday, Nov. 23 that was hosted by Cherokee Choices. The participant numbers from each community were as follows: Birdtown 15, Wolftown 15, Yellowhill 13, Big Cove 6, Big Y 6, Painttown 5 and Visitors 59. There were 81 runners and 31 walkers.
BASKETBALL: Cherokee sweeps Mitchell
It was a night of accomplishments in the Charles George Arena on Friday, Nov. 22 as both the Braves (1-1) and Lady Braves (1-1) defeated Mitchell and Kendall Toineeta scored her 1,000th career point as a Lady Brave. The Lady Braves destroyed the Lady Mountaineers 90-32 and the Braves won a close one 86-80.
