Tribal Medicaid and Food and Nutrition Eligibility Office celebrates first 150 Days
The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Public Health, Jackson County Department of Social Services and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services worked collaboratively for more than a year to bring Medicaid and Food and Nutrition Services eligibility to Cherokee.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials announced on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 25 that Newfound Gap Road is closed until further notice due to a rockslide that occurred near mile-marker 13 around 9 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 14.

Art installation set up on Island
Sometimes art is created and lasts millennia, and sometimes art is created and lasts momentarily. The latter was the case on Saturday, July 1 as two artists, Jeff Marley and Frank Brannon, set up an installation among the bamboo on the Oconaluftee Island Park.

In preparation for the 105th Cherokee Indian Fair, Frieda Huskey, Fairgrounds and Special Events supervisor, and Lisa Frady, Events and Group Tour coordinator held a drawing on Tuesday, June 20 for the vendors who will be serving food at the Fair.
