Celebrated multi-Michelin starred chef and television personality Gordon Ramsay and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel have teamed up to bring Ramsay’s Kitchen to the Murphy, North Carolina property in early 2025.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) continues to demonstrate its commitment to aiding communities affected by the recent hurricane, as the Tribe has coordinated the intake and distribution of $3.2 million in critical supplies.

Encouraging language and reading: Chi Shipman bringing more Cherokee language to Library
Chi Shipman is dedicated to both learning the Cherokee language and sharing it with others. She recently accepted the position as manager of the Qualla Boundary Public Library and hopes to be able to add Cherokee language in inventive ways there.

COMMENTARY: The U.S. government should enforce eagle feather regulations
During the September session of Dinilawigi (Tribal Council), the American Eagle Foundation (AEF) presented. The purpose of their visit was to solicit a partnership with the tribe to develop a rehabilitation and hospital facility for eagles and other birds of prey. The visit was facilitated by the Steve Youngdeer Post of the American Legion Post 143.
SPEAKING OF FAITH: Consider Christ for Christ’s Sake
It is a true statement that the best part of any community is the people. Unfortunately, we also must acknowledge the other side of that reality.
COMMENTARY: We all need accountability
Being responsible for someone or something is never an easy chore. Ask any parent. If you truly take on the duty to raise a young one right, it will be a physically and mentally taxing endeavor. On top of meeting personal goals and meeting spiritual standards, a parent must also navigate societal norms.

ON THE SIDELINES: Let’s establish the Will Poolaw Fan of the Year Award
The first On the Sidelines column I wrote many years ago was on the biggest Cherokee Braves fan I have ever met – Mr. Will Poolaw. Will is a staple at Cherokee sporting events, and his ever-present smile and can-do attitude bring life into the sidelines at every one of them.
ON THE SIDELINES: Family and fan support for athletics is crucial
At every athletic event I cover, there are always fans with many of them being family of the athletes. Being on the sidelines, I can hear the cheers for the athletes coming from the stands – which are generally full.
SOFTBALL: Zoie Shuler signs on with UT
Zoie Shuler, a senior at Robbinsville High School and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, signed on to play softball for the University of Tennessee (UT) on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 8 in the Robbinsville High School gymnasium.
