New housing development opens in Yellowhill Community
Tribal officials of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Chief Flying Squirrel Village on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 30. The housing development is located off of Acquoni Road in the Yellowhill Community.

Over the past 15 years, the Cherokee Language Program (CLP) at Western Carolina University has compiled and digitized thousands of Cherokee language documents and media files.
Longs named N.C. Small Farmers of the Year
Harold and Nancy Long, the owners of Long Family Farms and Gallery in Murphy, are the 2019 North Carolina Small Farmers of the Year. Harold is a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

COMMENTARY: Getting in the Zone
Zoning has been a dirty word in Cherokee for as long as I can remember. In a discussion during one of my early days in working with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the subject was brought up by one of the folks less educated on the history of the subject on the Qualla Boundary.

Darius Lambert, freshman member of the Cherokee High School cross country team, has been lighting up courses all year long. He finished his season with a bang by placing fourth overall at the 1A State Championship meet at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Joseph Edward (Eddie) Almond Jr., 65, of Cherokee, passed away on Thursday, May 27. He was born Aug. 4, 1955 in Bryson City to parents Ruth Jean Cole Almond and Joseph Edward Almond, Sr. He had one sister, Ann Almond Howell (Bill) of Bryson City.
