The National Park Service (NPS) is investigating an online scam selling fraudulent parking tags to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Someone posing as the National Park Service is directing individuals and organizations to a website titled “Smokies Park Pass”.

James Bates, age 77, of Tuckasegee, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dorothy Bates and the son of the late Lester and Flonnie Bates.

The public is invited to join the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Cherokee Nation (Okla.), and staff of the Red Clay State Park in Tennessee for the inaugural Cherokee Heritage Festival on Aug. 2-3 at the Park. The theme of the event is “Persistence, Resistance and Perseverance: The Formation of the Eastern Band”.
