Effort to restore Kuwohi name moving forward
The effort by two Cherokee women to restore the name of Kuwohi to an area in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is now one step closer to coming to fruition.
Cherokee stories from a Cherokee voice; Museum is updating exhibit
The Museum of the Cherokee People is currently working on updating its main exhibit – one that has been on display since 1998. The Museum received a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation for $225,000 for the research and development aspects of the update to the area that will now be called the Main Gallery as opposed to the permanent exhibit.
CCS school board concludes last meeting of 2023
The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools met on Monday, Dec. 18. The meeting included a financial report, policy revisions, and Indian School Equalization Program (ISEP) funding discussions.

Cooper reappointed to WCU Board of Trustees
The University of North Carolina Board of Governors appointed Timothy “Jake” Robinson of Canton, to the Western Carolina University Board of Trustees, while also reappointing current board members, Robert “Bob” Roberts of Asheville, Haden Boliek of Fayetteville, and Casey Cooper of Cherokee at its meeting Thursday, April 22.
Caleb Sullivan recognized by Destinations International
The Jackson County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has announced that Caleb Sullivan, the TDA’s social media marketing and group sales specialist, has received the honor of being named one of Destinations International’s 2021 30 Under 30 recipients.
