EBCI leadership attends Tri-Council Meeting; resolution passed on Moccasin Bend
Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Tribal leadership attended the historic Tri-Council meeting recently, a significant gathering that unites the three sovereign Cherokee nations: the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, and the Cherokee Nation.
Teen drowns in Oconaluftee River
At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, June 24, Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers and Cherokee Search and Rescue responded to a report that a teenager didn’t resurface after he lost his footing in the Oconaluftee River behind the Mountain Farm Museum in Cherokee, N.C.

Lloyd Carl Owle receives Frell Owl Award
Lloyd Carl Owle, an elder of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, received the coveted Frell Owl Award on the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 14 during a ceremony held at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Convention Center.
EBCI announces Remember the Removal participants for 2023 Ride
Six members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) have been selected to participate in the 2023 Remember the Removal (RTR) Ride which will retrace the northern route of the Trail of Tears this June. The riders will join participants from the Cherokee Nation on the journey from New Echota, Ga. to Tahlequah, Okla.

COMMENTARY: Reasons to vote “yes” for adult use cannabis
On Thursday, Sept. 7, the Cherokee people will cast a historic vote regarding the legalization of cannabis for adult use (persons 21 and over). Qualla Enterprises respectfully encourages a YES vote for the reasons below.
