Charles K. “Bear” Johnson, 84, of the Yellowhill Community, stepped into his eternal heavenly home on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022. Bear is survived by Verna Arthur Johnson, the love of his life whom he met at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. They were married on Oct. 3, 2003.

Pamela Janeen (Driver) Jackson, 49, of the Big Community of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord and her Heavenly Family on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022 following an extended illness and month stay at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

 Mary Elizabeth (Sequoyah) Swayney passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Rachel Mathews Mathis, 67, of the Towstring Community, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022.

Janet Jessie Walkingstick-Mehaffey, 77, of 71 Hyatt Cove Rd. in Cherokee, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 while at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

CPO Herbert Sneed Sr., USN (Ret.), 86, of the Wolftown Community, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, Aug. 26. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness originating from his service to his country and tribe.

Patricia Marie Swayney, 58, of Cherokee, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022 following a long-term illness and a short stay at Bon Secours Health Systems, Saint Francis Downtown Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

Melissa Pheasant Queen, 62, of the Big Cove Community of Cherokee, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Diver and Nellie (Swayney) Pheasant.
