The Cherokee Fitness Complex underwent renovations this past summer and fall, and those upgrades are now complete. 

Cherokee Elementary School Honor Roll – 2nd Nine Weeks

Last June, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians opened the Fire Mountain Trail System, a 10+ mile mountain bike trail system, and since then, the trail has been receiving flowering reviews. 

This month has flown by. I started the month off with the Gatlinburg parade, and then I was able to be in the Bryson City parade the very next day.

For many, the holiday season is a time to be spent in the company of friends and family celebrating honored traditions; for the Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Fellows, their tradition is their annual group service project.

Lt. Lewis H. Harding, an EBCI tribal member, enlisted June 1957 in the United States Navy Reserve, and he completed basic training at Bainbridge, Md.  He was then assigned to the Naval Reserve Station located in St. Petersburg, Fla. 

When you can hold the attention of an audience of children and have them sit in awe, you’ve accomplished something.  Several months ago, Cherokee Central Schools held its annual pow wow in the Charles George Memorial Arena, and I witnessed such an event. 

With us being just a few days away from Christmas, the idea of a giving spirit is amplified this time of year.
