The Cherokee High School boys and girls track teams participated in the Franklin Invitational meet at Franklin High School on Thursday, March 2.

For the second year in a row, Cherokee has taken home the top post-season honors in girls basketball in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference.

The other day, my cousin Charity put a post on her Facebook page discussing the poor officiating that she witnessed during a high school basketball playoff game in South Dakota.

The Cherokee Lady Braves played the Murphy Lady Bulldogs in the third round of the state playoffs at the Charles George Memorial Arena on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Katy Hall, Mitchell junior power forward, took the ball down the right side of the court and launched a picture-perfect three-point shot at the buzzer of a state playoff second round match-up against the Cherokee Lady Braves on Thursday, Feb. 23.

As I stood on the sidelines getting my shots and taking notes as the Lady Braves hosted Mitchell on Thursday night, I noticed several things.

The Cherokee Braves (19-8) and Lady Braves (24-2) both won their first round match-ups in the 1A state playoffs against the same school, Union Academy.
