I implore everyone to treat the members of the Cherokee Braves football team the same this week as if it were just any other week. 

On paper, the offensive output by Cherokee and Robbinsville was just about identical.

Cherokee High School played host to the Smoky Mountain Conference middle school and high school cross country championship on the beautiful, fall afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 18. 

Scoring was a team effort for Cherokee as they improved to 8-0 on the season with a road win at Andrews (1-8) on Friday, Oct. 13.

The ghosts and ghouls will be rolling out for blood at the next event hosted by local roller derby team Smoky Mountain Roller Girls for the Day of the Skating Dead Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Swain County Recreation Center located on Deep Creek Road.

Cherokee scored 20 unanswered points in the second half of Friday’s game to stay unbeaten on the season. 

Cherokee (6-0) scored 45 unanswered points to top cross-county rival Swain Co. (2-4) on Friday, Sept. 29. 

Ok, I’ll bite.  I’ve tried, in vain apparently, to avoid commenting on the one controversy that has completely taken over professional football – people taking a knee during playing of the “Star Spangled Banner” aka the national anthem.
